Diane Guerrero is ready “to get under Judd Hirsch’s skin.”
Here’s your first look of Guerrero, the former Orange Is the New Black star who is now a series regular on CBS’ Superior Donuts. She plays Sofia, a self-starter who runs a healthy food truck in front of the old-school donut shop run by Arthur (Hirsch).
“Diane was a great fit with our cast from the moment she set foot on our stage,” says executive producer Bob Daily. “She’s a great antagonist who can get under Judd’s skin, and she also has great chemistry with Jermaine Fowler [Franco Wicks] that could lead to romantic sparks down the road.”
“I love Sofia because she uses her skills to set herself apart and put her stamp on the world,” Guerrero says. “It’s important to represent women in this light … as hard working, thinking, and innovative people. People who don’t have a problem with challenging the status quo.”
As for joining the Donuts cast that also features Katey Sagal as Randy DeLuca, Guerrero says, “I am so happy and proud to work with the entire cast and love how talented and welcoming they’ve all been. It’s honestly a dream come true. Taxi and Married with Children helped shaped my ideas on comedy. And Jermaine is a breath of fresh air. He’s hilarious and so so great to work with.”
Guerrero played Maritza Ramos on OITNB from 2013-17.
Superior Donuts returns on Oct. 30 at 9:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
