Kim Kardashian West opened up about her relationship with Caitlyn Jenner when she stood in for Kelly Ripa on Monday’s Live With Kelly and Ryan.
During a conversation with host Ryan Seacrest, Kardashian West talked about a recent time when she was having doubts about reality. “I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I was having maybe a good month of just being on edge and just thinking that everyone was plotting and planning,” she said, specifying that this period was soon after she was robbed in Paris last year.
“I just thought, there’s so much going on, and we just never stop, and I really learned that — I took a couple months off, and I just wasn’t on social media, and honestly, I think it is so beneficial for everyone in life no matter what you do, who you are, how old you are, you need a digital detox.”
Seacrest then asked if the Paris robbery was the most difficult experience she’s had since Keeping Up With the Kardashians debuted, but Kardashian West said Jenner’s transition was probably “the most difficult thing we’ve ever dealt with or filmed.”
“Just because we had no idea if people were going to accept her,” Kardashian West explained. “And that was the hardest thing, seeing that someone might go through a lot of pain and you can’t do anything to protect that person.”
She then gave an update on her relationship with Jenner, who she has publicly strayed from after Jenner’s memoir came out and included stories about Kris Jenner, Kardashian West’s mom, that Kardashian West called “hurtful” and “unfair.”
“We don’t have much of a relationship,” Kardashian West said on Live. “We’re family, so I do believe that maybe this is just a phase. I feel like there’s been so much hurt and pain with Caitlyn and my mom, and at the end of the day, I’ll always ride for my mom, she’s my mom, I love her to death. I respect Kendall and Kylie and that’s their dad and it’s a crazy dynamic, but at the end of the day, we’re all family. I’m just going to try to be super positive and hope that it all resolves itself.”
