Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is bidding a fond farewell to her latest project, New Mutants. The actress and her costars and director revealed filming on the X-Men spinoff film has come to an end.

Directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), the plot of New Mutants has been kept under a pretty tight lock. According to an EW source, however, New Mutants will focus on five new mutants “held in a secret facility against their will” who “have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.”

Williams plays Wolfsbane in the film, with Anya Taylor-Joy (Split) as Magik, Blu Hunt (The Originals) as Dani Moonstar, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Cannonball, and Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Sunspot.

Wrote Zaga on Instagram after filming wrapped, “Today we wrapped a very special film… I’m so proud of our New Mutants family and what we’ve achieved. It’s been one of the best experiences of my life, so thanks everyone for making it an unforgettable one and for an amazing movie.”

Added Hunt, “This is a picture of me after wrapping my FIRST movie EVER. Exhausted, sad, and excited for the future. Bye Dani Moonstar.”

Previously, Boone told EW, “We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.” The inspiration for New Mutants, which debuted in the early 1980s, comes from the Bill Sienkiewicz era, starting with issue No. 18 in 1984. Boone described the Sienkiewicz New Mutants as “a darker and more surreal and impressionistic X-Men series than we’d ever seen before. It felt like Stephen King meets John Hughes.”

New Mutants arrives in April 2018.
