1. A Column of Fire by Ken Follett (Viking, fiction, on sale Sept. 12)

What it’s about: In 16th century England torn by strife, Queen Elizabeth I establishes a secret service, as two lovers (one who works for the queen) remain separated by religious differences.

The buzz: Follett continues the “Knightsbridge” historical saga begun with the best sellers The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End.

2. Unstoppable: My Life So Far by Maria Sharapova (Sarah Crichton Books/Farrar, Straus & Giroux, non-fiction, on sale Sept. 12)

What it’s about: A memoir by the tennis star, who has mounted a comeback since being suspended for testing positive for the banned substance meldonium (she lost in the fourth round at the U.S. Open).

The buzz: “Insightful,” says Publishers Weekly.

3. The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye by David Lagercrantz (Knopf, fiction, on sale Sept. 12)

What it’s about: Imprisoned punk hacker Lisbeth Salander returns to expose dark truths from her childhood with the help of journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the latest entry in the best-selling Millennium series begun by the late Stieg Larsson.

4. David Bowie: A Life by Dylan Jones (Crown Archetype, non-fiction, on sale Sept. 12)

What it’s about: This oral history of the rock icon who died in January 2016 at age 69 draws on nearly 200 interviews.

The buzz: “A sweeping, gossipy biography,” says Kirkus Reviews.

5. Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke (Mulholland Books, fiction, on sale Sept. 12)

What it’s about: A black Texas Ranger gets caught up in a racially charged murder case in this launch of a new series.

The buzz: “Absorbing,” says Publishers Weekly.
