David Letterman is coming back on Netflix. Buzz60
More than two years after ending his 22-season run on CBS, David Letterman is ready to come out of retirement.
The former Late Show host is prepping an as-yet-untitled, 6-episode series for Netflix that will premiere in 2018.
The new show will jettison the traditional late-night format. Instead of monologues, top 10 lists and multiple guests, Letterman, 70, will focus on a single-guest, long-format interview and field segments.
In a statement, the TV veteran said, “I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix. Here’s what I have learned: If you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely.”
In his own remarks, Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, said, “Just meeting David Letterman was a thrill; imagine how exciting it is for me to announce that we will be working together,” said“David Letterman is a true television icon, and I can’t wait to see him out in the wild, out from behind the desk and interviewing the people he finds most interesting.”
But what about the question on everyone’s mind?
“We’ll have to see if he keeps the beard,” Sarandos teased.
