Kendrick Lamar sets the VMAs on fire (literally) with explosive opening performance

Well, that’s one way to make an entrance.

Kendrick Lamar got the MTV Video Music Awards off to a burning start Sunday, performing a medley of hits DNA and Humble, the latter of which is up for eight Moon Person awards, including video of the year.

Dressed in a puffy red jacket, white T-shirt and scarf, Kendrick began his DNA performance center stage surrounded by laser lights, before moving around the Staples Center arena, where he was joined by black- and white-clad acrobats dressed as ninjas.

In the most impressive display, a performer wielding a sword was lit on fire (but quickly extinguished), just as the rapper launched into Humble and a group of dancers climbed a fiery wall behind him.

Sorry, Katy Perry, but Kendrick is one tough act to follow.
