Rejoice, fall fans! Starbucks’ beloved Pumpkin Spice Latte is back. And the march to stores began Friday with a strangely intriguing live stream.
At 11 a.m., the coffee chain began streaming a video of a small, hay-covered barn space reminiscent of the area that April the Giraffe famously inhabited before giving birth in the spring.
Not much happened for the first hour, but then someone in a straw hat and flannel shirt reached in and placed several fall-related items, from a pumpkin to a small orange cup with ‘756’ inscribed on it, on the hay floor. Cardboard signs also appeared onscreen with random pumpkin “facts.”
“Did you know? All pumpkins require a quarter-turn ‘rotation’ twice a day. We don’t know why,” one sign read.
At one point, a hand reached in and began tossing a small orange ball to the pumpkin which was seated in a straw nest.
When a viewer questioned what was going on, Starbucks answered: “This is not a tangerine. It is a regulation sized latte hatch relief sphere. The first PSL hatching requires playtime – fetch is a favorite.”
Devoted PSL fans seemed to dig it.
“This is hilarious,” Mikki Marie commented on the video.
“Omg how cute!!!” Amanda Jones wrote.
“Sugar and spice and everything nice,” commented Jordan Hedley.
Fans also expressed their thoughts on Twitter.
The video currently has more than 350,000 views on Facebook.
Livestream or not, fall fans have awaited the seasonal latte for months, and already started sharing their excitement with gifs and memes.
Starbucks will continue the livestream throughout the weekend. Earlier in the stream, the company hinted at fun events to come, such as a celebrity guest, musical performances and appearances from puppies and kittens. Basically, everything your average Pumpkin Spice lover adores. .
Still, no word yet on when Starbucks fans can officially grab their first Pumpkin Spice Latte.
