Honestly, is there anything to see at the movies this weekend?
You bet! Let’s start with Patti Cake$ and its magnetic star Danielle Macdonald, who plays an aspirational, blonde-haired rapper living in New Jersey and dreaming of the big time.
In this week’s Straight Up Hollywood podcast, which takes you backstage and behind the scenes of your favorite movies and TV shows, listen in on on West Coast entertainment editor Andrea Mandell’s interview with the rather delightful Macdonald, who talks about her big break after moving to the USA from Australia at 18.
Now 26, actress next stars in Dumplin’with Jennifer Aniston playing her mom, so of course we asked what Aniston’s house was like. (Smartwater is actually flowing.)
(Patti Cake$ is currently in 15 cities including New York, Chicago, Austin, Atlanta and Washington D.C., and will hit 80 cities over Labor Day. If it’s not in your city yet, don’t miss our other fave, The Big Sick.)
Then we discuss Game of Thrones ahead of its big season finale (no spoilers about Sunday though). Television reporter Bill Keveney spoke to director Alan Taylor, who helmed last Sunday’s episode, and got his thoughts about that epic dragon death.
Finally, we’re dishing on the new Netflix weed-based show Disjointed, starring Kathy Bates, which Bill reviewed recently.
Should you watch, or should you pass this joint? Listen in.
